Faqs
Will Expanse run on my hosting account?
Expanse will run just fine on the most popular hosting companies servers. To be sure, run the Expanse Compatibility script on your website to see if you can run it.
Here are the main requirements:
- PHP Version 4.3.0 or greater
- MySQL installed
- Safe mode turned off
- Also, if you want to automatically generate thumbnails, your host must have the GD extension installed.
The Expanse Compatibility script will check all of this for you, and tell you if you’re good to go.
Go ahead and grab it.
Does Expanse run on Windows?
Yes! Expanse does run on hosts that use Windows (Windows Server 2003), but you may find that Expanse works best on hosting companies that run Unix or a similar operating system (most hosts do).
If none of this makes any sense, feel free to ignore it as nerd speak.
What browsers can I use with Expanse?
For the best experience, we recommend that you use either Internet Explorer or Firefox. Safari does work, however, there are some slight bugs, and Safari does not support the full version of the editor.
Opera is completely trashed though, and we can’t guarantee that you’ll have a good time using it with Expanse.
Does Expanse generate valid XHTML and CSS?
Any HTML that Expanse generates is indeed valid XHTML and utilizes valid CSS. However, each theme can be made to be as valid, or invalid, as the end user wishes. Themes control the front end of Expanse, and can be made to use any doctype, strict or transitional.
With Expanse, you have total control of all of your markup.
Do I have to use Lightbox?
No. The default theme comes with Lightbox bundled in, but you can use any method you like for viewing images. You can place your images in popups, it’s own individual page, or however else you’d like.
Expanse allows you to have full control of your portfolio, and how you want to display it.
Why do you give 10% of your orders to charity?
Even though we are both staunch capitalists, we believe that there is not only room for philanthropy, but a requirement for it. We feel that when you give, it comes back to you many times over, in ways that have nothing to do with money.
We also feel, given that much money is lost to bureaucratic waste when governments are left in charge, that businesses are in a much better position to help.
We decided very early on that we wanted our company to have a focus that was centered around something other than a pure profit motive.
While our goal IS to turn a profit, we believe that when we put people first, when we look to deliver the best product we can, treat our customers with the highest level of respect, and look to do as much good in the world that we can, then profit is inevitable.
Google’s motto of "Do no evil" isn’t good enough for us. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is a much better one, in our opinion.
